Travis (Boise)

~$2,400

flights ~$200 + cruise + extras

Dublin couple

~$2,800

flights ~$800pp + cruise + extras

Daily rate (cruise days)

$230–280

incl. all onboard meals

Dublin flights eat 28–32% of the total budget — the biggest variable. Book 6+ months out on Aer Lingus (direct SEA) or Icelandair (via Reykjavik). September fares typically run $600–900 roundtrip per person.
Day 1

Everyone flies to Seattle

Travis: BOI→SEA (1hr, ~$100 one-way). Dublin couple: DUB→SEA via Reykjavik or London (~10–12hr). All arrive same day, check into a downtown Seattle hotel near the cruise terminal.

Day 2

Seattle — pre-cruise day

Pike Place Market, Chihuly Glass, waterfront, dinner at a proper seafood restaurant. The Dublin couple gets a recovery day from the long flight before boarding.

Day 3

Embark in Seattle — set sail

Board at noon, explore the ship, sailaway from Elliott Bay with views of the Olympic Mountains. First sea day dinner onboard.

Day 4

Ketchikan

Totem poles at Saxman Village, Creek Street historic district, rainforest zipline or floatplane over Misty Fjords. Salmon capital of Alaska — eat accordingly.

Day 5

Juneau

Mendenhall Glacier walk (free, stunning), Mount Roberts Tramway, whale watching in Stephens Passage. Alaska's capital is the standout port — budget extra time here.

Day 6

Skagway

Gold Rush boomtown frozen in 1898. White Pass & Yukon Route scenic railway is the bucket-list excursion here — clings to cliffs over a 2,800ft pass. Walking the town is free and historic.

Day 7

Glacier Bay or Tracy Arm scenic cruising

No port stop — ship navigates between calving tidewater glaciers. National Park Service ranger narrates on deck. This is the visual highlight of the entire trip. All day, all decks.

Day 8

Sitka or Icy Strait Point

Sitka: Russian-era history, St. Michael's Cathedral, Alaska Raptor Center (bald eagles up close). Icy Strait: the best bear and whale viewing of any Inside Passage port, less touristy.

Day 9

Sea day + Victoria, BC (evening)

Final sea day for spa, deck lounging, recap dinners. Many itineraries include a magical evening stop in Victoria — Butchart Gardens and the lit harbor at night.

Day 10

Disembark Seattle — fly home

Back in port by 7am. Travis catches mid-morning BOI connection. Dublin couple flies SEA→DUB (Aer Lingus has a direct flight, ~10hr). Everyone's home same day.

Holland America top pick

Best Alaska brand recognition, Glacier Bay access, NPS rangers onboard, fresh-caught wild seafood program. Slightly older demographic — quieter vibe, great for this trio. ~$900–1,400pp balcony in Sept.

Princess Cruises

Strong Alaska heritage, "North to Alaska" cultural programming, good mix of active and chill. Competitive Sept pricing. Glass-domed rail cruisetour add-on possible if group wants to extend.

Celebrity Cruises

More upscale feel, better food, "Infinite Veranda" rooms. Good for the couple dynamic. Slightly pricier but premium inclusions narrow the gap. Celebrity Edge in Alaska in 2026.

Virgin Voyages

Adults-only, all-inclusive dining, hipper crowd, off-the-beaten-path ports. Great for a group of adults who don't want kids in the hot tub. Sails Seattle ↔ Vancouver one-way — coordinate logistics.

Cruise cabins (especially balconies for September): book by May 2026 — Sept is shoulder season so not as urgent as July/Aug, but Glacier Bay itineraries sell out.

Dublin→Seattle flights: set price alerts now on Google Flights. Historically cheapest to book 3–6 months out. Aer Lingus flies direct SEA↔DUB which is the cleanest option for the couple.

White Pass Railway (Skagway): book independently in advance, sells out early even in September.
